All year round, Southernmost Illinois is actively getting people together for every reason imaginable. Quilters and Red Hatters will have a chance to socialize with like-minded friends in April, and the River to River Relay draws hundreds of runners to the region.
There are numerous places to watch a spectacular fireworks show in July, and farmer’s markets have become a popular Saturday morning occasion in many places during the summer months. Car shows, tractor shows and wine festivals draw fans and onlookers from all over the region in early fall, and open houses, parades, and dinners keep locals and travelers alike occupied throughout the winter months.
Many festivals in the region are unique to the area, such as the Superman Festival in Metropolis, home of the comic-book character. The Cobden Peach Festival grows every year and celebrates the harvest of the peach crop, with baked goods, rides, games and music. The scenery combined with tradition and the wonderful people in the area come together to create some of the best social occasions in the Midwest, and we welcome one and all to join in the fun.
